The program can be designed to improve remedial skills or serve as an enrichment program depending on the needs of the agency. Instructors are trained to build the individual literary strengths of each child and work to develop identified strengths and limitations. It is a six-session (12-hour) program that includes several instructional strategies that align with the New York State Standards for English Language Arts. The visual arts component of Kids X-Press enables children to create works of art that explore different subject matter, themes, topics and metaphors. The visual arts are used as self-expression to communicate children’s ideas about how they see the world as it relates to a specific subject. The program ends with a workshop publication and certificate of completion.
Underwrite KXP Quarterly Magazine $20,000
The children who participate in the workshops write the stories and generate the artwork that is ultimately published in a quarterly magazine that we produce called Kids X-Press. The full-color publication is, in fact, the only magazine completely written and illustrated by kids and for kids. It is currently distributed in a number of cities across the country, and in some cases internationally, through library systems and other venues. This level supports the entire cost of producing and delivering 25,000 copies plus on-line excerpts.
Underwrite Special Edition Publication $30,000
Often issues affecting children are better communicated by children. Over the last two years, Kids X-Press, Inc., has had the opportunity to give voice to children facing life challenges, such as living in a distressed community or suffering from a chronic disease. Thanks to the generous support of like-minded organizations, Kids X-Press produced special editions on topics such as childhood obesity, youth violence and Type 1 diabetes. Hundreds of tweens and teens participated in these publications -- giving their perspective on these national issues – and thousands more had access to the magazine. Join such sponsors as Bayer Diabetic Care, Entergy, federal and state governments, etc., in giving voice to children with illnesses/conditions such as cancer, autism and asthma, just to name a few.

There are after-school programs that already provide literacy enrichment activities in writing and art, but are missing the publication. The Kids X-Press team will edit, design, produce, print and deliver a customized magazine that will publish your children’s work.
