Check out our KXP Reporter Caroline Lagumina's interview with Veteran, Michael Wright!

Today, many veterans come home after deployment and find themselves without a job. Employers don’t always recognize the true skills that these soldiers can bring to the workplace. Some companies are making an effort to help these soldiers feel welcomed back into normal life and find jobs. Interviewing Michael Wright, an Entergy worker and veteran, was insightful and inspiring! He has served in the Navy and the National Guard. He is a man who shows great dedication to his family and his country. He has recently returned from deployment in Afghanistan and has now retired. It was impressive to see his pride and his support for the young men and women who are still fighting overseas. As a leader, he spoke of their strength, discipline, and loyalty in times of difficulty. He also showed great respect for the Afghan people. He spoke of working closely with 200 Afghans whom he trusted and respected. He also showed pride when he spoke of his children who are following in his footsteps in the armed services. Throughout the interview, Michael Wright spoke of his concern for the men and women returning from war having experienced great life lessons, but are still undervalued in the workplace.

Kids X-Press Begins the VOICE OF...Series!

admin | March 22, 2012

With our Winter 2012 Edition, Kids X-Press began an idea that has developed into a working concept for the new generation of our organization.

"The Voice Of... "series builds on the success of the inaugural New Orleans edition where we partnered with organizations like New Orleans Outreach, YAYA, and ReThink to get kid generated content. The youth of New Orleans had plenty to say about their educational system and how they believe they are the education experts, the environment in which they live and how they can make it better, and the business of art and how it has changed their lives and how it can change yours as well. While Kids X-Press magazine has been available in the New Orleans area since 2009, this is the first time the content has been generated exclusively by local youth.

Kids X-Press wants to give that same opportunity to the children of other cities. "The Voice Of..." series is about giving voice to youth in various cities around the world and create their own magazine. The idea of reaching out to different communities to learn about the opinions, experiences, and stories of diverse youngsters is an exciting initiative. We sometimes underestimate the power of words from youth and Kids X-Press continues to change that. Tell us what city should be the next Voice Of publication and why you think that city should have its own Kids X-Press magazine!
